Home > Business BUSINESSThis department we expect to open shortly. Meanwhile, here is a mini-review of an outstanding book of importance to every marketer in every industry. MINI-REVIEWThe Long TailChris AndersonThe book-length version of Chris Anderson's 2004 article in Wired magazine lives up to expectations, and should be required reading for every marketer, especially those working on the internet. His argument is that the long tail of low demand products and services, once uneconomical for businesses to provide, are now easily capable of being supplied (and profitably) due to the transformative influence of new production, communication and delivery technologies. What is more, the democratisation of creative technology has made it possible to grow the tail to even greater dimensions. New niches, never before envisaged, can now develop. Small-scale enterprise can compete with the giants. The American and British edition sub-titles differ. "Why the future of business is selling less of more" and "How endless choice is creating unlimited demand". Between them they tell it all. Marketing on the Internet?
