World Affairs: Africa
    Africa Travel     Africa History

This selection of books relates to Africa, a beautiful continent with a disastrous human history which continues into the present day with its conflict, kleptocracy and corruption. And yet, there is much more to Africa than the negatives of displacement, poverty and hunger. There is also determination to build a future which is different, and high calibre African leaders in both business and public life seeking to move their countries onward and upward out of the difficulties with which they have lived for so long.

We include books on the continent as a whole, and then individual countries such as Zimbabwe, Angola and Nigeria. The much debated role of China in Africa, especially the hungry search for oil, is addressed by volumes in that country's section. Issues of natural resource extraction more generally are covered by books in our Oil & Energy section. A volume on the challenge of "conflict diamonds" is displayed below.

Don't forget also that our "Read-the-World" scheme allows you within most of the country or regional sections to move easily between world affairs, travel and history departments to obtain a broader view.

From time to time we hope to add pages relating to individual countries. The first of these is now ready. Click here for: "DRC: The Democratic Republic of Congo".
