World Affairs: Oil & Energy

OIL - The life blood of modern economies. And yet it is a finite resource. But how finite. Some will say that the peak in oil production is very near, or even already upon us. Others will say that doomsaying about oil scarcity is ill-founded and that there are still vast reserves to be discovered using technologies that were simply not available in the past. Meanwhile, the developed economies have varying degrees of real commitment to the concept of energy conservation.

Not only is oil a finite, non-renewable resource, but it is unevenly distributed around the globe. Two of the world's most rapidly growing economies have little of their own reserves. China is aggressively hunting for supplies and acquiring exploration rights wherever they can be found, and especially in Africa. Many nations with extensive supplies sadly suffer under the curse of corruption.

All of these and more issues are covered in the books displayed below, and we will add more from time to time on this vital 21st century topic.
